Venue: Inglewood, California (HBO)

This Saturday, July 15, HBO presents a triple-header that is a bit low on big name stars, but has the potential to be an action packed card.

The main event takes place in the 130 pound Super Featherweight division where #4 ranked Miguel Berchelt (31-1; 28 KO) defends his WBC title against #5 ranked Takashi Miura (31-3-2; 24 KO). Both men are perhaps best known for their wars with Francisco Vargas – Miura fell to Vargas in arguably the Fight of the Year in 2015, while Berchelt comes in off a January win over Vargas. High potential here for this to be a terrific battle.

Before the calendar turned to 2017, Miguel Berchelt was virtually unknown in the boxing world. At least the U.S. boxing world.

He had fought all but one of his 31 professional fights in his native Mexico before the night of Jan. 28, when he challenged unbeaten WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif. Despite an 88% knockout rate, few gave Berchelt a chance to beat Vargas, a warrior if there ever was one. After all, Berchelt had fought mostly B- and C-level fighters in Mexico.
